GETTING STARTED
What is all-star cheerleading?
+
All-star cheer is a competitive team sport that puts stunts, tumbling, jumps and dance together into one choreographed routine. Teams are grouped by age and skill level, and are either pre-competitive (novice or prep) or competitive (all-star).
GETTING STARTED
Who can join Toxic Elite?
+
Everyone is welcome. We're a volunteer-run club with novice, prep and all-star teams at different skill levels, so families can choose the commitment, season length and number of performances that suit them. Venom, our Cheer Abilities team, is for athletes of all ages and abilities.
GETTING STARTED
Which team will my child be on?
+
Teams are grouped by birth year and skill level. You can check each team's birth years, practice times and fees on the Teams page. After you register, we'll email you to confirm your athlete's team.
GETTING STARTED
How do I register?
+
Fill in the registration form on the Registration page. It takes about five minutes. A one-time $50 registration fee is due at sign-up and covers your athlete's insurance.
GETTING STARTED
Can my athlete join after the season starts?
+
Yes, if the team has space. Register as usual and we'll let you know whether there's a spot.
GETTING STARTED
Who sees my child's medical information?
+
Medical details from the registration form are only shared with your athlete's coaches. We use them to keep your athlete safe at practices and competitions.
TEAMS & PRACTICES
When are practices?
+
Practices run Sunday to Thursday evenings at our gym at 220 South Railway Drive NE in Redcliff. Each team practises once or twice a week. See the Teams page for your team's times.
TEAMS & PRACTICES
What should my athlete wear to practice?
+
Well-fitting clothes they can move in, clean shoes, and hair up in a ponytail. No jeans, and please remove large, sharp or dangling jewellery. Sports bras or half tops are fine. Bring a water bottle to every practice.
TEAMS & PRACTICES
What if we have to miss a practice?
+
Tell your coach at least one week ahead for a planned absence, or within 24 hours for illness or a family emergency. The message has to come from a parent or guardian, not a teammate. Please avoid vacations during competition season (January to March).
TEAMS & PRACTICES
Can parents watch practice?
+
Yes. Parents, family and friends are welcome to watch, but not on the practice floor. Now and then the head coach may hold a closed practice.
TEAMS & PRACTICES
What is gym duty?
+
Each month one team's families look after weekly cleaning at the gym: garbage, bathrooms, the front foyer and the upstairs lounge. Check the Schedule page to see your team's month.
FEES & PAYMENTS
How much does a season cost?
+
There's a one-time $50 registration fee, then monthly club fees of $75 to $100 from August to April, depending on the team. Competition fees, Cheer Canada registration ($48) and the uniform are extra. The full breakdown for every team is on the Teams page.
FEES & PAYMENTS
When are fees due?
+
Monthly club fees are due by midnight on the 1st of each month. The uniform fee and Cheer Canada registration are due with the first payment on August 1. Competition fees can be split into two payments, September 1 and October 1, or you can arrange with the club to start paying over the summer. Club fees can also be paid in full.
FEES & PAYMENTS
How do we pay?
+
Fees are paid by e-transfer. Once your athlete's team is confirmed, we'll send you the payment details.
FEES & PAYMENTS
What do club fees cover?
+
Club fees cover the gym and music costs. Cheer Canada registration, insurance, competition fees and uniforms are separate. Travel and hotels for competitions are also extra; carpooling, room sharing and fundraising help keep those costs down.
FEES & PAYMENTS
What if my athlete quits part-way through the season?
+
Any club fees still owing for the season have to be paid, and fees already paid aren't refunded.
COMPETITIONS & TRAVEL
Where do teams compete?
+
This season: Imagine Cheer Championships in Calgary (January 30–31), True North Cheer Championships in Edmonton (February 26–28), Stampede City Showdown in Calgary (March 20), and the Magical Competition of the World in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (May 19–23) for select teams. Dates for every event are on the Schedule page.
COMPETITIONS & TRAVEL
How many times does my athlete perform at a competition?
+
Prep and novice athletes perform once at two-day competitions.
COMPETITIONS & TRAVEL
Who goes to Mexico?
+
The Magical Competition of the World is for select teams, chosen by commitment level and team size.
COMPETITIONS & TRAVEL
Is there anything we should avoid before a competition?
+
Yes. No high-risk activities like trampoline parks or waterparks within 24 hours of a competition. They raise the risk of injury and tiredness, and an athlete who can't perform safely may be held out.
UNIFORMS & GEAR
How much does a uniform cost?
+
About $110 for the bodysuit or short-sleeve uniform, or about $180 for the full all-star uniform, depending on the team. Prices include the bow and are estimates based on past exchange and shipping rates.
UNIFORMS & GEAR
When are uniforms worn?
+
Only at competitions and at set practices or fundraising events. Families are responsible for cleaning and caring for uniforms and gear.
CLUB LIFE
How will we hear about practice changes?
+
Coaches send important information by email, text or group chat. We also post updates on our Facebook and Instagram pages, so please follow us.
CLUB LIFE
Who are the coaches?
+
Our coaches are certified volunteers who give their time to the club. They keep up with safety guidelines and training. Meet them all on the Coaches page.
CLUB LIFE
What can I talk to the coaches about?
+
Please do talk to coaches about how your child is treated, ways to help them improve, and any concerns about their behaviour. Routine positions, division choices and other athletes are decisions the coaches make for the whole team, so those aren't up for discussion.
CLUB LIFE
Are there rules for athletes?
+
Yes. Athletes show respect to coaches and teammates, put phones away during practice, keep their social media clean, and never stunt without a coach supervising. The full code of conduct is in the handbook on the Registration page.
CLUB LIFE
Can we rent the gym for a birthday party?
+
Yes. It's $100 for 2 hours, or $50 for gym members, and a $25 deposit holds your date. Email toxic.elitecoaches@outlook.com or message us on Facebook to book. Details are on the Gym Rentals page.
